SOUTHPORT STATION
Opened in 1851, Southport Station is a historic terminal serving the Northern Line of the Merseyrail network and the Manchester-Southport Line operated by Network Rail.​

As part of a wider initiative to introduce new Class 777 rolling stock (130m long) onto the Northern England railway network, Southport Station has undergone significant upgrades. This project is part of a broader effort to extend numerous platforms across the region to accommodate the new, longer trains and enhance passenger capacity.

These upgrades ensure Southport Station remains a vital hub for regional connectivity, supporting modern rolling stock and improved commuter experience while preserving its historical significance.
META SERVICES
Meta Environmental was commissioned to conduct a baseline noise survey to meet local authority requirements, measuring the background noise levels (dB LAeq,T) near the project site. The survey included unattended monitoring stations strategically installed near site compounds, ensuring representative data collection for residential and commercial receptors.

The project scope also included a Noise and Vibration Impact Assessment to facilitate discussions with the Environmental Health Officer (EHO). The advanced monitoring system provided real-time data accessible via a web platform, with optional 24/7 trigger alerts for compliance during the works. This continuous monitoring enabled detailed baseline comparisons, demonstrating the minimal noise impact of construction activities. The data supported Section 61 applications and provided reassurance to local authorities and affected residents about the limited and controlled nature of noise exposure.
