METROFLOW UPGRADES
The Newcastle Nexus Metro Flow project was a £104 million initiative aimed at enhancing the Tyne and Wear Metro's capacity and reliability. The project involved converting three single-track sections between Pelaw and Bede into dual tracks, thereby eliminating bottlenecks and facilitating more frequent services. This upgrade increased the system's capacity by an additional 24,000 passenger journeys daily and improved overall service punctuality.
The project's success was recognized nationally when it was named Major Project of the Year at the National Rail Awards in September 2023
